Presque Isle State Park encompasses a 3,200 acre forested peninsula on Lake Erie. The park boasts seven miles of beaches, hiking trails, numerous boat launch areas, and a 13-mile multi-use trail system. Visitors enjoy a variety of activities including swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, hiking, bicycling, kayaking, beach volleyball, and running. The park has hosted competitive bicycle, running, beach volleyball, and swimming events and can easily accommodate thousands of visitors or spectators.

Presque Isle Bay/Erie Waterfront/Liberty Park

Erie’s Presque Isle Bay is a 5.8 square mile recreational amenity in downtown Erie. The bay is approximately 4.6 miles long and 1.8 miles wide with an average depth of 20 feet. Popular activities on the bay include swimming, sailing, crew, diving, kayaking, fishing, sailboarding, and waterskiing. Erie’s waterfront is lined with marinas, public parks and piers which can accommodate thousands of spectators. Liberty Park Amphitheater, a special events facility on the waterfront, can host up to 4,000 people.

Erie Bayfront Convention Center

Built in 2007 on Erie’s waterfront, the Bayfront Convention Center features over 28,000 square feet of space in its “Great Hall” which also has a height of 23 feet. The Convention Center has already hosted events such as boxing matches, gymnastics and cheerleading competitions, and even regional dog shows. The facility has over 470 free parking spaces and its companion 200 room Sheraton Hotel has a 300 space parking garage.

Tullio Arena

The Tullio Arena is Erie’s largest multi-purpose sports facility with the ability to host a wide range of events such as professional ice hockey, professional basketball, and indoor football. The arena is home to the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, the Erie BayHawks of the NBA’s Developmental basketball league, and the Erie Explosion indoor football team. The arena can currently seat 5,500 people for ice hockey. A $42 million renovation project is underway and projected to be completed in 2013. The capital improvements include additional seating and restrooms and enlarged concourse areas. The arena has successfully hosted events such as the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships and the 2011 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four National Ice Hockey Championship.

Jerry Uht Park Baseball Stadium

Jerry Uht Park, a 6,952 seat, baseball-only stadium is located adjacent to the Louis J. Tullio Arena in the heart of downtown Erie. Recent improvements include a modern electronic scoreboard with a 40-foot video display and a two-tiered Picnic Garden which contains 11 luxury boxes and new concession stands. The ballpark also has six luxury suites in the main grandstand. The AA Eastern League’s Erie Seawolves have called the park home since 1999. The ballpark has also been a popular site for college and high school baseball games.

Family First Sports Park

Family First Sports Park is the Northwest Pennsylvania region’s largest multi-sport facility. The expansive complex includes 17 outdoor playing fields, three indoor soccer fields, an inflated sports dome, outdoor basketball courts, a gymnasium with four basketball courts, a fitness center, multi-use flex space, recreation area, and access to a 116 room dormitory which can hold over 300 visitors. The complex has hosted numerous tournaments, camps, and clinics for sports such as soccer, lacrosse, baseball, football, cheerleading, and golf. The Sports Park is conveniently located along Interstate 90 just south of the city of Erie.

Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium
Built in 1924 and refurbished in 1980’s, Veterans Stadium is the city of Erie’s largest outdoor stadium capable of seating 10,000 fans. The stadium is centrally located in the city of Erie and can host football, soccer, and other events such as band competitions. A new “A-Turf” surface gives the stadium the capability of hosting multiple games or events the same day regardless of weather conditions. The facility has long been used for playoff football and soccer games.

Mercyhurst University

The Mercyhurst Athletic Center is 12,000 square feet facility that seats 1,800 for basketball. The Mercyhurst Ice Center, built in 1991 for the school’s Division I men’s and women’s hockey teams, has 35,280 square feet and can host 1,500 people. Also on campus is Tullio Field, an artificial turf football/soccer complex, which seats 2,300 spectators on bleachers. Dormitories and food service are also available.

Located in the city of Erie’s central business district, the Hammermill Center is a newly refurbished basketball/volleyball facility with a capacity of 2,800. Gannon University Field is a multi-purpose complex which is used for football, soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse with a seating capacity of 2,500 and excellent lighting for night time events. Dormitories and food service are also available.

Edinboro’s Sox Harrison Stadium has been improved recently with the installation of an artificial surface, Sportexe, new lighting for evening events, and a new scoreboard. The stadium has a capacity of 6,000 people. The natatorium at McComb Fieldhouse features a six-lane 25 yard pool. The gymnasium at McComb Fieldhouse has a seating capacity of 3,500. The newly constructed Zafirovski Dome is the largest air-supplied facility in the tri-state area at over 85,000 square feet. The facility has a six-lane 230 meter indoor track as well as four multi-purpose courts. Edinboro enjoys a small town setting and is approximately 20 miles south of Erie.

The Junker Center is a $10.2 million athletics and recreation center. The 72,800-square-foot site features three all-purpose courts and a gymnasium seating 1,600, an eight-lane swimming pool, weight room, three-lane running track, jumping pits, aerobics room, locker rooms, offices, and a variety of exercise equipment. Behrend College will construct a $1.9 million soccer/lacrosse facility with synthetic turf, lighting, and a grandstand by September of 2012.

Cathedral Prep’s full service athletic complex opened in 2010 to serve the Erie community. The facility features a stadium that provides seating for 2,000 spectators, convenient parking and a new artificial turf surface and track. The state of the art main building offers locker facilities as well as casual and formal dining opportunities. The Rambler Café offers luncheons, dinners, banquets and graduation/retirement parties. Seating capacity will comfortably hold up to 150 attendees.
